Annual Report
January 1 – December 31
The Impact of a Foundation
The Community Foundation is excited to be celebrating our 16th anniversary! The impact of our first 15 years is remarkable – stretching across all nonprofit sectors and helping the entire locale of Teton Valley, from community members to critters. From 2008-2022, your consistent partnership has garnered nearly $20.8 million in support of local nonprofits through the Tin Cup Challenge. This is an impressive number, given our relatively small population.
Over 16 years, the Challenger Fund has awarded $629,675 in Competitive Grants that directly impact the community, serving critical needs in a timely manner. Additionally, Youth Philanthropy has not only touched 328 graduating seniors but also granted $58,000 in awards to local organizations.
The Community Foundation is honored to be the hub and mainstay for local nonprofits and donors alike. With your support, we’ve built a Foundation that can readily grow with our community. Thank you for 15 years!
A MESSAGE FROM OUR
Board Chair
Thanks to our incredible community, 2022 was the 15th year of growth for the Community Foundation of Teton Valley. The success of the Foundation over the past 15 years elevates philanthropy in support of local nonprofits. With your help, the Tin Cup event raised more money than ever.
Challengers showed their generosity by pushing the Challenger Fund higher. Throughout the year, volunteers came forward to make our events and presentations successful. Teton Valley nonprofit organizations demonstrate tireless energy in making life richer for all. Thank you all for your continued support of philanthropy!
In July of 2022, the Tin Cup Event Day in Driggs City Park was a fantastic community event. People from all corners of the valley and beyond run, walk, or just visit with the nonprofits at their booths. A splendid time is guaranteed for all.
The fourth quarter of 2022 was a time of transition for the Foundation. We welcomed Bonnie Self as our new Executive Director. She has hit the ground running because of her time in the valley. She brings her extensive experience with nonprofits to the position. She has picked up the reins of the organization and is moving it forward.
With our donor’s help, the Community Foundation continues to grow our Grant Fund programs. For example, Youth Philanthropy allows high school students to review and evaluate grant requests and present them to the winning applicants. Our devoted team at the Community Foundation, Claire Vitucci, Brian Thysell, and now Bonnie Self, are essential to all our work. We are grateful for their expertise and dedication and you for helping make all our work possible.
Sincerely,
Scott Pierson
Board Chair
A MESSAGE FROM OUR
Executive Director
As the Community Foundation winds down from its busiest season, I am so grateful to all those who helped and welcomed me to my new role. It is hard to adequately express the appreciation I have for the reconnections and new connections I have made. The nonprofit community has been a joy to work with and learn from. The supporters and partners have been generous, kind, and engaging. And the board of directors and staff have been patient and helpful as I get my feet on the ground.
Getting to know the board and staff over the past year, it is no surprise 2022 was so successful for the Community Foundation. It is a cohesive group of committed hard-working, and thoughtful leaders that oversee the critical mission of improving lives in Teton Valley. Their leadership is without bounds, and
I thank our outgoing members, Astrid, Nan, and Randy, for their endless hours of dedication. Tim Adams, who led the Foundation in 2022 and through a pandemic prior to that, also deserves many accolades for his time and positive energy to advance so many important efforts carried on today. Their impact will be felt for years to come.
With Gratitude,
Bonnie Self
Executive Director
Foundation Programs
Competitive Grants Program
The Community Foundation’s Competitive Grant Program has awarded $581,377 to Teton Valley’s nonprofit community in a strategic and impactful way over 15 years. This initiative aims to support innovative projects and initiatives across various sectors. The program encourages applicants to develop compelling proposals that address critical challenges and drive positive change in their respective fields. By providing financial resources and recognition to successful applicants, the Foundation promotes excellence, collaboration, and the advancement of solutions that have the potential to make a lasting difference in our community.
Funding decisions are made by our dedicated volunteer Grants Committee of community members with diverse interests and experiences. Thank you to the Tin Cup Business & Community Challengers who make this program and these grants possible!
In 2022, the Community Foundation awarded 16 Competitive Grants to Teton Valley nonprofits. $71,248 went out directly in support of programs and projects that will elevate lives in Teton Valley. By funding these projects today, we support the future of these organizations and their programming when our community needs them most.

Youth Philanthropy Grant Program
The Youth Philanthropy Grant Program is an empowering initiative that aims to cultivate and support the philanthropic spirit among graduating seniors. This program allows young people to make a tangible difference in their communities by offering financial grants to fund innovative and impactful projects. By encouraging youth to identify and address social issues that matter to them, the program nurtures leadership skills, fosters empathy, and promotes a sense of responsibility toward creating positive change. Through this grant program, young philanthropists are empowered to envision and implement projects that have a lasting and meaningful impact on society, inspiring a new generation of compassionate and engaged citizens.
Now in its 12th year, the 2022 awards mark the granting of $58,000 in total via this multifaceted program. Youth Philanthropy provides an excellent opportunity to introduce the concept of philanthropy to the next generation while helping them better understand the significant and impactful roles that nonprofits play in our community.
The Youth Philanthropy Program is made possible through the generosity of Tin Cup Challengers and private donors who partner with the Community Foundation of Teton Valley to elevate lives through the power of generosity. This year, Challenger Richard Grundler charitably enhanced students’ traditional granting capacity with an additional gift, giving them $7,000 in awards to distribute during the Youth Philanthropy grant cycle.
Seniors worked through 17 grant applications with a total funding ask of $14,810. After thorough discussion over three class periods, they awarded four projects full funding and five projects partial grant awards with the funds they had at their disposal.

Nonprofit Leadership & Support
Nonprofit Workshops
In addition to resources readily available year-round, 199 nonprofit leaders participated in 17 networking and learning opportunities. The most unique of these offerings was a Strategic Planning Cohort that the Community Foundation partially sponsored in the Fall. Seven participating Executive Directors spent a full day with their Board Chairs to focus on strategic planning and custom software that helps keep nonprofit staff and board moving forward on their chosen roadmap. This cohort meets monthly and has access to the software for two years!
Networking and learning opportunities offered by the Community Foundation provide the nonprofit community with impactful connections, collaborations, and successes. Talks with Tim, now E.D. Exchanges, provide a monthly check-in for Executive Directors to help ensure local organizations’ stability, sustainability, and success. Workshops provide in-depth, concentrated learning with peers on locally relevant subjects. Pocket Talks are an accessible, 1-hour introduction to vital nonprofit subjects. Board Briefs offer new and seasoned board members an opportunity to embrace best practices, understand ever-changing roles in growing organizations, dispel nonprofit myths, and ask questions.

Investing in an agency fund with the Community Foundation has allowed Teton Valley Community Recycling the financial security the organization has been striving for over the last 25 years. It has allowed us to plan for the organization’s future by growing our capacity at a rate that works for us all while ensuring we have funds to support us when we get there.
Angela Saggiomo, Executive Director, Teton Valley Community Recyling
Opportunities Fund
This fund was renamed at the end of 2022, converting the Community Emergency Response Fund to help with acute community granting needs. While any nonprofit can apply, funding will be restricted to grants focused on addressing health & human services for the next two years. Tim Adams
Tim Adams came to the Community Foundation with more than 20 years of nonprofit experience under his belt. After growing Teton Valley Trails & Pathways from a part-time E.D. to a full-time position with staff over the course of a decade, he was even more well-versed to be a mentor for local nonprofit leaders as the Executive Director of the Community Foundation. He successfully led the Foundation for four years and through the heart of the pandemic. We wish him well on his next adventure.
LeAnn Talbot
After two terms and six years of dedicated service, LeAnn stepped down to focus on her grandchildren. She generously served as Secretary on the Executive Committee for five years and was an integral leader within the Donor Relations Committee. LeAnn has been instrumental in numerous strategic planning sessions and in building out Key Performance Indicators for our organization. While she’ll be deeply missed, we know that the mission of the Community Foundation is dear to her heart, and she will continue to champion our work. Thank you!
Thanks to our incredible community, 2022 was the 15th year of growth for the Community Foundation of Teton Valley. The success of the Foundation over the past 15 years elevates philanthropy in support of local nonprofits. With your help, the Tin Cup event raised more money than ever.
