$8,000 – PAWS of Teton Valley
The Community Foundation of Teton Valley was honored to award an $8,000 grant to PAWS of Jackson Hole as start-up funding for its PAWS of Teton Valley facility. The Community Foundation strongly supports PAWS of Jackson Hole’s efforts to establish a locally based community animal shelter in Teton Valley.
PAWS of JH has been partnering with the Teton Valley Community Animal Shelter in Driggs for more than 10 years. It has granted more than $70,000 in funding to help keep Teton Valley Community Animal Shelter operational and to underwrite much-needed building improvements and repairs. In late 2021, the Board of Directors at the Teton Valley Shelter approached PAWS about taking over the Shelter. After auditing Teton Valley Community Animal Shelter books, it became clear that it would not be sustainable for another year or even the next few months without intervention. PAWS of JH was aware of the consequences resulting in the shelter’s financial failure, so it stepped in to help and worked out a purchase agreement in which it acquired the shelter building and five acres of land, knowing it would be starting January 1, 2022, without any funding for shelter operations and having estimated that the PAWS of Teton Valley 2022 budget would be $350,000.
PAWS of Teton Valley is looking forward to creating long-term sustainability in Teton Valley and estimates that it will need two to three years to stabilize its budget. This grant will help to fund its operations to serve the pets and people of Teton Valley as well as gain financial sustainability through fundraising and additional grant funding.
The Community Foundation commends the important work of PAWS of Jackson Hole as it employs proven methods in achieving long-term sustainability for PAWS of Teton Valley.
