Turkeys to Families in Need for Thanksgiving

$700 – Teton Valley Food Pantry

Anne Fortier receives the Grant Award on behalf of the Teton Valley Food Pantry.

Youth Philanthropists from Teton High School were pleased to fully fund the Teton Valley Food Pantry’s proposal to offer a turkey to community families whose resources are stressed during the holiday. They usually serve approximately 60 households per week and would offer the turkeys during a one-week period prior to Thanksgiving.

Teton valley food pantry not only provides healthy free choice food to those in need, they also believe in providing a welcoming and respectful resource to our community. In income-stressed households decisions often involve cutting back on food budgets to pay rent or pay for gas to get to work. Especially during holidays, extra expenses may not be an option. While getting a turkey at Thanksgiving may not seem to be a “critical” need, the Food Pantry feels that being able to have a turkey on the Thanksgiving table may relieve some stress that often occurs in low-income households during the holiday season. It is their way of showing that they not only care about the food security of clients but also their well-being.

Success will be noted by the smiles on clients’ faces! In the past, our client’s gratitude for similar projects has been heartwarming for the volunteers who work at the pantry – making everyone feel good about the program. Youth Philanthropists were happy to support this goodwill project and look forward to following the results through photos posted to Instagram, Facebook, the Food Pantry website, and the Community FB page.
