Philanthropic Growth of the Tin Cup
Our busy season has arrived, along with the lilac blooms and sunshine that welcomed summer to Teton Valley. With the 11th Annual Tin Cup Challenge Giving Period now open, we are in full swing, planning for Event Day on Saturday, July 21st — just one month away!
We’ve changed venues, and we are thrilled to host this year’s Event Day in the Driggs City Park! With the expanded space and neighborhood-based venue, we look forward to offering a more up-close and personal opportunity for community members to interface with participating nonprofits, learn about how they serve our community, and why their services are so critical. Equally, our nonprofits are excited to share their expertise with you. Teton Valley Education Foundation is bringing a school bus that will be used as a gallery to showcase student art, Teton County Idaho Search and Rescue will let you tour their trailer, and Teton Valley Foundation will be offering the public an opportunity to try their hands at soap hockey!
Last year marked a decade of the Tin Cup Challenge. Over the past ten years, we have watched the fruits of the Tin Cup’s labor manifest thriving nonprofits serving the needs of our community in countless ways — providing critical programs in the fields of health & human services, animal rescue, conservation & environment, civic service, arts & culture, education, and recreation. On the third Saturday in July, year after year, the Tin Cup reveals the deep-seated compassion and interconnectedness of our tight-knit valley.
Truly, what stands out most this year is the incredible philanthropic growth this event has engendered over time. In just ten years, the Tin Cup Challenge has raised $11 million for the health and well-being of our community of 10,000+ residents. This is an impressive reflection of the big-heartedness that infiltrates Teton VaIley. From 2008 to 2017, we have seen a 61% increase in the number of donors participating in charitable giving through the Tin Cup Challenge. This means that one in four households is now giving through the event. Their median gift of $250 has also seen huge growth from the Tin Cup’s inception, when it was $150. The total amount raised has increased 71% in the same amount of time – amounting to $1.53 million for local nonprofits last year. This underscores the value of generosity our community shares.
Please visit us on Friday mornings at the Farmer’s Market! At our booth, you can donate to your favorite nonprofits, sign up to volunteer with us, or register to participate in our 5k Fun Run or 10k Competitive race on July 21st!
As the temperature rises, so does our excitement, because we know the time and effort we all spend will be reinvested in the people, animals, land and community programs that make Teton Valley such a special and unique place to call home. Generosity is a cherished community value here, and the Tin Cup is a celebration of that vibrant spirit!
