Valley Adaptive Sports collaborated with Teton Valley Aquatics and Teton Valley Foundation to scholarship instructor-led swimming lessons and inclusive Ice & sled hockey. They provided 24 swimming lesson dates with 3-4 instructors per session. They also offered 12 inclusive ice and sled hockey sessions. The Teton Springs Foundation matched a $2,000 Competitive Grant from the Community Foundation for $4,000 in scholarship grant funding. This amount went directly to ice time and instructor staff hours. Additionally, Valley Adaptive Sports contributed $1,900 in organizational and equipment contributions from other funding.
They served 18 unique individuals with disabilities during the swimming lessons, along with some parents. The sled hockey served 29 unique individuals with disabilities, along with some parents and siblings. The scholarship grant program allowed them to directly train staff at Teton Valley Aquatics and Teton Valley Foundation to work with people with disabilities and offer free opportunities for people with disabilities to improve their swimming and ice skills.
Our local experts have provided excellent mentorship and skills practice to improve the skill and grow the sled hockey community and encourage people to learn to swim. People of all ages, different disabilities, siblings, and spouses all get on the ice and play or recreate swimming, bringing the community together.
