This morning, the Community Foundation of Teton Valley hosted the 13th Annual Tin Cup Challenge Awards Celebration in a nontraditional manner. The Foundation hosted an open Zoom meeting at 9:00 AM to release the results of the 2020 Tin Cup Challenge to nonprofit participants, Challengers, board members, donors, and volunteers.
After recognizing the significant contributions of the Foundation’s Board, staff, in-kind donors, and volunteers who support the success of both the Tin Cup Challenge Giving Period and Event Day annually, the Community Foundation’s Executive Director, Tim Adams, announced results to an anticipatory, virtual crowd, “In a year of many unknowns, I am ecstatic to announce we had our most successful Tin Cup Challenge ever! Breaking records for the 7th year in a row and raising $1,766,670!”
This year’s total is an 8% increase in total funds raised over last year. The Challenger Fundtotal is aggregated by gifts from Business & Community Challengers, and Friends & Supporters of the Challenge, totaling $720,510, which is an increase of 3% over last year. Designated gifts raised by participating nonprofits brought in an amazing $1,046,160, which is an increase of 13% over last year.
Additionally, a record 1,234 donors were inspired to give during this year’s Tin Cup Challenge – meaning that one in four Teton Valley households participated in charitable giving through the 2020 Tin Cup Challenge. In thirteen years, the Tin Cup Challenge has raised over $16 million for the health and well-being of our community of 11,000+ residents. Adams reiterated, “Thank you to all our donors, volunteers, nonprofits, and community members for looking at the face of adversity and exceeding all our expectations.”
The Mobile Awards Celebration resumed in front of the Community Foundation office from 11 AM – 1 PM, as nonprofit representatives picked up their Tin Cup Challenge grant checks that included a 60% Matching Grant for the first $25,000 in funds raised by each participating nonprofit during the Tin Cup Challenge Giving Period. This year’s remarkable match of 60% was attainable, in part, due to the Community Foundation’s COVID-related cost savings that were directed back to the nonprofits in this unprecedented year.
The heartwarming gratitude felt during the Zoom call and check pick-up is due to the overwhelming support of 213 Business & Community Challengers, 27 Friends of the Challenge, 23 Supporters of the Challenge, and thousands of contributions to participating nonprofits. Without the nonprofits that work tirelessly in our community or the unwavering support of our committed donors, the nonprofit landscape of Teton Valley would be vastly different than it is today. The health of our community is dependent upon the health and vitality of our local nonprofits. Thank you to everyone that made the 13th Annual Tin Cup Challenge our most successful event to date – together we continue to elevate lives through the power of generosity.
