2017 Fall Grants: Community Resource Center of Teton Valley & Hapi Trails

November 14, 2017

EAGALA Model Leadership Training

The Community Foundation of Teton Valley applauded the collaboration of the Community Resource Center & Hapi Trails with a $2,000 award during our Fall Competitive Grant cycle.

Grant funds will support HAPI Trails providing monthly horse-facilitated leadership training using the EAGALA Model. This model improves metacommunication, confidence, self-regulation, and emotional intelligence skills. Jen Carter, a licensed professional counselor and board chair of HAPI Trails, and Julie Martin, an equine specialist and executive director of HAPI Trails, will facilitate these events on the ground. The EAGALA Model does not include riding horses, so general risk is reduced. Additionally funding covers activities that will be interpreted, as needed, by a Bilingual Interpreter.

This equine-assisted psychotherapy provides time, space and a variety of supports to increase observation, mindfulness, self-confidence and leadership skills. We look forward to hearing more about the successes of this program as it launches in Teton Valley.
