Now in its 14th year, the Youth Philanthropy Program provides an excellent opportunity to introduce the concept of philanthropy to the next generation. Through this program, in partnership with Dual Enrollment Government classes at Teton High School, seniors are exposed to the crucial and impactful roles nonprofits play in Teton Valley while gaining a profound understanding of the granting process. Students review grant applications, interview select nonprofit leaders from applying organizations, and ultimately award grant funds to local charities.
In addition to the concept of philanthropy, this program provides a firsthand look at the multifaceted roles local nonprofits fulfill and how they meet the needs of fellow citizens. According to one of last year’s Youth Philanthropists, “I learned that there are many organizations that help make our community great, also, that many of them are in need. Although we could not fund all the proposed projects, there are many different ways to help local organizations. Philanthropy does not just mean to give money, it is to volunteer your time, effort, and skills to the community. I am pleased to know that our community cares enough to support nonprofits to build a healthy environment.”
To increase nonprofit participation and community impact, this year’s total distribution marks a 43% increase over funds awarded for the last four years and a 50% increase in the total that can be awarded to each organization. The Youth Philanthropy Program is made possible through the generosity of Tin Cup Challengers and private donors, like Dr. Richard Grundler, who partner with the Community Foundation of Teton Valley to elevate lives through the power of generosity.
