A Charitable Legacy
An incredible legacy of charitable giving in the Tetons began in 1997 when an anonymous couple donated $500,000 to create an innovative fundraiser that would support local nonprofits and inspire community giving – Old Bill’s Fun Run for Charities was born. Graciously Old Bill’s and the Community Foundation of Jackson Hole incorporated Teton Valley nonprofits into their fold to help support nonprofit services on both sides of Teton Pass in the early years; however, as Teton Valley and its nonprofits began to expand, it became evident that our valley could support our own giving period, match and celebration. The result of this growth founded both the Community Foundation of Teton Valley 2007 and the first Tin Cup Challenge in 2008.
Celebration of Generosity
The establishment of the Community Foundation of Teton Valley, as an affiliate of the Community Foundation of Jackson Hole, helped create a local organization that serves to provide ease of giving for our donor community, expertise in charitable giving and an avenue to attract new donor support. Donations are then dispersed to local nonprofit organizations to help meet their financial needs. In turn, these nonprofits serve vital roles in our valley, offering programs and services for local residents.
The Power of the Challenger Fund
The Tin Cup Challenge operates under a unique, modern model of fundraising that allows nonprofits to collect every penny dedicated to them during the giving period, in addition to a Matching Grant, supplied by donors to the Challenger Fund. The Challenger Fund is a multifaceted pool of money that covers hosting the Tin Cup Challenge, including the costs of processing, collecting and distributing donations. This ensures that nonprofits receive 100% of the donations dedicated to them through the giving period. Additionally, the Challenger Fund provides funding for two cycles of Competitive Grants, the Youth Philanthropy program and Matching Grants for participating nonprofits during the nine-week giving period.

The Community Foundation of Teton Valley’s Tin Cup Challenge makes charitable giving easy. Organizing and coordinating charitable giving into a singular annual event for all of our local nonprofits brings more funding to these nonprofit organizations, further enhancing their sustainability and effectiveness. This strategic philanthropic course serves to strengthen and network donors, nonprofits, volunteers and the community at large. Through the work of the Community Foundation of Teton Valley, donors can administer their donations in an informed and efficient manner.
Tin Cup Challenge Impact
Over nine years, the Community Foundation of Teton Valley has raised $9.5 million for local nonprofits – an astonishing sum for a population of just over 10,000 residents! In celebration of this year’s 10th anniversary of promoting a culture of giving, the Community Foundation of Teton Valley hopes you’ll take part in the momentum we’ve created as a community by donating through this year’s Tin Cup Challenge and further improving lives through the power of generosity. Gifts to participating local nonprofits can be made online at www.tincupchallenge.org or by using the donor forms inserted in the Tin Cup Challenge brochures mailed to each postal box holder in the valley.
