Organization: Teton Valley Community Recycling (TVCR) – Pierre’s Pedal Project
Compensation: $21-24.00 per hour depending on experience
Commitment: Part-time, year round, 20 hours per week (relatively flexible), with the potential to grow into a full-time position.
Position Summary
Pierre’s Pedal Project is a program from Teton Valley Community Recycling a 501(c)3. We’re a nonprofit bike shop dedicated to refurbishing used bikes in order to keep them out of the landfill and provide affordable bicycles to the community in Teton Valley. Pierre’s Pedal Project is seeking an accomplished, community-minded bicycle mechanic to join our team. In this role, you will refurbish donated bicycles, serve customers, support volunteers, sell bicycles and components online, and open and close the shop. This is a unique opportunity to help build capacity at Teton Valley’s only nonprofit community bike shop, while wrenching on bikes and keeping them out of the landfill.
Core Responsibilities
Bicycle Refurbishment: Independently diagnose, repair, and thoroughly clean and tune up all types of bicycles to prepare them for public sale.
Shop Operations Support: Assist TVCR’s Executive Director with customer service, bike fitting, and operational responsibilities during public shop hours. Open and close the shop.
Inventory & Organization: Sort incoming donations, systematically organize spare parts, identify needed tools and consumable purchases, and maintain a clean, safe, and welcoming shop environment.
Online Sales: Photograph, list, and manage the e-commerce sales of select bicycles and specialty components.
Schedule
This is a year round position with opportunity for growth. Must be able to be at the bike shop during our open hours: Tuesdays from 4:00 PM – 8:00 PM and Saturdays from 10:00 AM – 4:00 PM plus a half hour of open and closing responsibilities on each end of these shifts. The remaining hours are flexible and can be completed anytime throughout the week. The work flow will change with the seasons. There is more mechanic work in the winter when the shop is slower, and more customer service responsibilities in the summer during peak biking season. We close the shop for major holidays.
The Bike Shop Mechanic will work closely with:
TVCR Executive Director: The mechanic will report to TVCR’s Executive Director. They will collaborate closely on scheduling, logistics, and shop operations.
Volunteers: Volunteers at Pierre’s Pedal Project vary from 12 to 82 years old. All bike refurbishments are currently completed by volunteers. The Bike Shop Mechanic will work alongside competent volunteer bike mechanics, and with volunteers who are new to the bike world and learning the ropes. Pierre’s Pedal Project has been nearly entirely volunteer run for six years. The Bike Shop Mechanic will collaborate with volunteers to take some responsibility off their shoulders.
Required Qualifications
Mechanical Expertise: Proven experience as an accomplished bicycle mechanic, capable of confidently assessing and repairing a wide variety of bicycle makes and models. Independent problem solving skills are crucial. You will rarely work on the same bike model twice.
Bicycle Knowledge: General understanding of the world of used bikes, parts, resale, and technology both new and old. Must be comfortable fitting customers for bikes with safety as the top priority.
Physical Ability: Must be comfortable riding a bike, using tools, lifting up to 50 lbs, and standing, sitting, crouching, or kneeling for extended periods of time.
Computer Skills: General competence with computers and a willingness to learn point-of-sale systems and online selling platforms.
Personal Skills: Must maintain a positive shop environment, treat others with respect, take responsibility, and give and receive feedback in a thoughtful manner.
Clearance: Successfully pass a background check. Our shop is located on the school district premises.
Safety & Policy: Adherence and compliance with all TVCR and Pierre’s Pedal Project policies and operational procedures.

Preferred Skills
Customer Service: A welcoming demeanor and the ability to assist the public effectively during open shop hours. Past customer service experience is a plus.
Community Focus: Enthusiasm for the bike shop as a non-profit community space benefitting Teton Valley. Past experience working with kids or volunteers is appreciated but not required.
