Navigating the Edges: Leading Change with Confidence
Leading a small nonprofit means wearing more hats than any job description could capture. Executive directors are expected to multitask, adapt in real time, and manage constant pressure from boards, donors, and staff — all while trying to keep sight of long-term strategy.
When the demands pile up, it’s easy to avoid the hard conversations: about roles, boundaries, and what’s truly sustainable. Left unaddressed, this pattern leads to burnout — and the risk of losing leaders who are more than capable of steering their organizations forward.
This workshop helps individuals and teams build the confidence to navigate these critical conversations before they reach a breaking point.
Through guided exercises and discussion, participants will:
- Understand the concept of organizational “edges” — what they are, how they show up, and why they matter
- Recognize the signs that an organization is approaching or resisting an edge
- Identify and explore their own organization’s specific edges
- Develop practical strategies for crossing these edges intentionally and resiliently
- Connect with peers to reflect, share, and co-create wisdom around navigating change
- Commit to accountability practices that support lasting, productive change
To tailor the workshop to participants’ specific needs, facilitator Nicole Garrett will conduct brief interviews and/or pre-assessments with registrants ahead of the session.
