Give! Run! Celebrate! During the 5th Annual Tin Cup Challenge
Community Foundation of Teton Valley hopes to raise $5 million in five years through its annual celebration of community philanthropy.
The entire Teton Valley community is invited to Give! Run! and Celebrate! during the Community Foundation of Teton Valley’s 5th Annual Tin Cup Challenge. The Tin Cup giving period – during which donations to participating nonprofits will qualify for match funds – opened on Friday, May 25, 2012 and runs through July 30, 2012.
THE FUNDRAISING CAMPAIGN
This year, the Community Foundation of Teton Valley hopes to increase overall giving by 15% over last year to raise $5 million in five years for local organizations. Launched in 2008, the Tin Cup Challenge has raised an incredible $3.7 million for Teton Valley nonprofits.
“In 2011 our community achieved a substantial fundraising milestone, raising over $1 million for local organizations through the Tin Cup,” said Shannon Brooks Hamby, executive director, Community Foundation of Teton Valley. “Our hope is to continue that momentum through 2012 and raise $5 million in five years to support the critical work of nonprofits in our valley.”
Organized and hosted by the Community Foundation of Teton Valley, the Tin Cup Challenge is both a one-day celebratory event and race on July 21, and a community-wide fundraising campaign. During the campaign, donations to participating nonprofits are matched – typically in the range of 50% – thanks to Community Challengers, who donate to the match fund. A total of 44 nonprofit organizations are currently participating in the Tin Cup and for most this event is their biggest annual fundraising source.
Individuals and organizations are invited to donate using the donor form in the Tin Cup brochure, which will arrive in local post office boxes this weekend. Donations may also be made on the Community Foundation website.
THE RACE AND CELEBRATION
On Saturday, July 21, 2012 the Community Foundation and participating nonprofits will host a celebration of community spirit and support in Driggs City Park. The 5th Annual Tin Cup Challenge will incorporate a competitive marathon, marathon relay, half-marathon, 10k and 5K as well as a 5K recreational run/walk.
“The Tin Cup Competitive Races are generating interest among runners on a national level,” said Race Director and CFTV Board Member Dick Weinbrandt. “We have a record number of marathoners signed up already and are looking forward to another great race!”
Competitive races will feature chip timing, and winners will receive handmade ceramic medals from the Teton Arts Council and nonprofit bucks to donate to the participating charities of their choice. All race participants are encouraged to register online at www.tincupchallenge.athlete360.com and take advantage of last year’s fees.
The celebration in the park features a free breakfast at 10:00 am and fun family activities hosted by participating nonprofits, including a climbing wall, bike relay, trivia contests and arts and crafts activities. The Diaper Derby, Hula Hoop Contest and Pie Eating Contest offer more fun ways to compete. Teton Valley Trails and Pathways will offer a free bike valet to anyone who travels by bike instead of car and The Learning Academy will offer free babysitting services for racers; reservations are available by calling 208-351-0024.
