Why It Matters: Hispanic Resources

Tin Cup helps us keep our community’s doors open.

The Hispanic Resource Center of Teton Valley started in 2010 in an effort to help neighbors and newcomers. We also longed to share our celebrations and culture with our new community.  Over the last nine years we have grown and provided:

• Interpreters to over 150 civic events, school programs, and hundreds of individuals. 

• Translation services to hundreds of projects for nonprofits, city and county services, schools, newspaper, articles, and legal aid. 

•  The Mobile Mexican Embassy community day to serve hundreds of Teton Valley and regional residents each year.

• Hosted Legal Forums for the community to understand every changing immigration laws and legal rights of residents and citizens .

• Hosted dozens of cultural events each year with Folklorico Dances, Mexican food booths, Day of the Dead, Cinco de Mayo Celebrations, and Mexican Craft classes.

• Rapid Response systems to help immigrant families be prepared for immigration issues.

• Assistance to over 25 Teton Valley youth with their applications for DACA status.

• Assistance to newcomers to find housing, jobs, and access to Teton Valley services.

• Classes and workshops for becoming certified Translators and Interpreters, English as a Second Language, Basic Spanish, and Folklorico Dance. 

We rely heavily on volunteers but know that to build a reliable institution we have to keep our office open and accurate information flowing.  Our commitment is to ensure that our community, its service institutions, and all its residents get the help they need, when they need it.  Finding funds for this commitment is tough.  

The annual efforts of the Community Foundation and the Tin Cup Challenge help us reach a much wider Teton Valley audience and magnifies the generosity of our many small donors into a much larger support tha we could never achieve on our own.  This keeps us going – literally.       

And the icing on the cake? Tin Cup makes it fun… a festival of nonprofits. A day when everyone who is doing amazing work to address problems and share resource gets to join forces and show ourselves off to the community that supports us all.  We get to applaud each other and be dazzled by how much has happened since last year.   Tin Cup shows just how strong and generous a very small, town can be.  That’s a story worth telling and a gift repeated year after year.          !Gracias Tin Cup!
