The Blake Chapman Aviation Scholarship was established by a passionate group of community members committed to expanding access to aviation education and career pathways for students in Teton County, Idaho & Wyoming. By reducing financial barriers, the scholarship opens the door for local students to pursue flight training.
The scholarship provides up to $12,000 to earn a Private Pilot Certificate, covering instruction, flight time, and required books. While recipients will incur additional expenses, the scholarship significantly reduces overall licensure costs, which are typically around $13,000, making this opportunity more accessible to all.
Applicants must be at least 17 years old by June 1 of the application year and demonstrate strong academic performance, community involvement, financial need, and a clear commitment to pursuing an aviation career. Participants must also be available for training 4–5 days per week from June through August, reflecting the dedication required to succeed in flight training.
The long-term impact of the Blake Chapman Aviation Scholarship is evident in alumni like Ethan Marcum, a 2016 recipient who later visited the Community Foundation to share how the scholarship launched his aviation career. The opportunity enabled Ethan to graduate early from Utah State University’s Professional Pilot program, instruct to build flight hours, and ultimately secure a position with SkyWest Airlines, where he continues to fly professionally today. Reflecting on his journey, Ethan shared, “I have accomplished my dream, which all started thanks to you!”
Scholarships like the Blake Chapman Aviation Scholarship play a vital role in strengthening the community by investing in local students, building workforce pathways, and ensuring talent can thrive close to home. As a charitable bank, the Community Foundation of Teton Valley holds and stewards scholarship funds, ensuring donor intent is honored, and opportunities remain available for future generations.
The 2026 Blake Chapman Aviation Scholarship application period closes Friday, February 20, 2026, at 5:00 PM. Eligible students are encouraged to apply, and community members are invited to support scholarship programs that help students turn ambition into achievement.
