Pierre’s Pedal Project (PPP) was awarded a $3,200 Competitive Grant to provide professional bike mechanic training to volunteers and local students. This skills-based training improves their ability to refurbish and maintain bikes and increases their potential volunteer pool, with the end goal being to keep bikes out of the landfill. Community Counts: Teton Valley Community Recycling
Since helping successfully establish the County’s Recycling Center in 2011, Teton Valley Community Recycling’s role has grown to being the community collaborator, educator, and advocate for overall waste reduction including improved recycling opportunities. As Teton County’s Solid Waste budget monies go primarily to processing and managing all materials including recyclables brought to our Transfer Station, there is precious little left over to support community outreach and education. Community Compost Program – $750 The Community Foundation was pleased to fully fund Teton Valley Community Recycling’s competitive grant to strategically and collaboratively reduce waste and increase composting locally. Teton Valley residents currently send large amounts of food and yard waste to the landfill for disposal thus increasing greenhouse gas emissions through transport and the resultant anaerobic decay of landfilled materials.
