SUMMARY:New Board Member Brief & Discussion
DESCRIPTION:\n\n\n\n\nSo, you are serving on a Nonprofit Board, Now WHAT? New board members have great enthusiasm for the mission of the organization that they join. They are ready to get to work and excited to help in whatever way they can. They have likely received an orientation on how the nonprofit raises funds, what programming is offered, and what responsibilities the new board member is expected to serve. This valuable information allows new board members to succeed and be significant assets to their organizations. Often left out of these orientations is discussion around the legal role of a board member and their relationship to staff, the rest of the board, and volunteers. This half-hour presentation orients new board members on the basic principles of serving on a nonprofit board. The presentation will also help create a peer network of board members to help foster support.\n\n\n\nSome of the topics covered include:\n\n\n\n\nPrimary Roles of a Nonprofit Board Member\n\n\n\nThree Legal Standards to adhere to\n\n\n\nGoverning Documents\n\n\n\nWhat should the Board of Directors and Staff expect from you?\n\n\n\nWhat does “Nonprofit” mean?\n\n\n\nMyths about nonprofits\n\n\n\n\nGuest speaker Gini Van Siclen brings a Masters in Nonprofit Administration from the University of Notre Dame Mendoza College of Business and her experience as past Board President of Friends of the Teton River to the table alongside our experienced Executive Director, Bonnie Self.\n\n\n\nTime Commitment: a 30-minute presentation with 30 minutes for discussion, questions, and answers.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n
