Edger Equipment for Kolter Ice Arena Maintenance
The Community Foundation of Teton Valley was pleased to award a $2,000 grant to the Teton Valley Foundation for the purchase of an edger for the Kolter Ice Arena during our 2017 Competitive Fall Grants cycle.
The Kotler Ice Arena reaches almost every demographic in the valley by providing affordable, subsidized winter recreation in a covered, dry space both during the day and night. As operations at the Kotler Ice Arena continue to increase in both volume and complication, TVF must continually adapt with more sophisticated equipment and systems that can meet the demands of our growing community. With more programs and people using the facility, the ice takes more abuse and requires more maintenance. It will be necessary to aquire the propert tools to ensure that the ice is both enjoyable and safe for users – locals and vacationers alike.
An edger is an essential piece of equipment that is especially needed at an outdoor ice rink where the ice can be affected by variations in rink quality depending on where the sun is at any given moment. Last year one of the gaps got so bad on the southwest perimeter of the ice that TVF had to block it off with big foam pads so people would necessarily avoid it! The purchase of this edger will alleviate that issue and help keep the ice in top shape for the newly extended 4.5 month season.
The Kolter Ice Rink provides a way to be active and connect with fellow residents during our long, harsh winter months and in turn helps build a healthy and connected community.
